What is this RestiView thing?
Back in the dark days of Covid, in 2020. Stuck in lockdown, I decided to set myself a challenge, to write my own phone app. I spent many long years as a software programmer, and I actually enjoy the creative experience of building software solutions.
I knew pretty much nothing about how to build a phone app, but with the aid of YouTube, it is amazing what you can learn.
But first I needed an idea – what would the app do?
After much deliberation, I hit on the idea for RestiView. Carol and I travel a lot and we both love to eat at good restaurants, but I am not good at remembering all the wonderful places that we have been to. So, the idea was for an app that would allow me to keep my own personal record of all the place I had dined at. It should capture the name, location, date, type of cuisine, then my own personal review of the quality, service, ambiance, food, drinks, occasion, etc.
So, I need to have a development platform, I needed a back-end database for data storage, and I needed to learn Java.
Long story-short, I did exactly that and eventually published the app for Android phones only. Back then Apple made it very difficult to build IoS apps.
At one point, I did have the idea to launch the app and try to attract people to use it. Hence the need for the RestiView website. I purchased the domain name and created a very simple ‘test’ website, but it never really went much further than that.
More recently, we did think again about having it developed and launched professionally. Adding in a social networking element, where friends and groups can share their reviews and the main website would be able give recommendations, based on preferences, and so on. But the project is currently stalled, and the engine may have seized!
Any deep-pocketed investors out there can give me a call if they think it’s a winner!
